Certain events can result in major changes to a person’s life. Losing a loved one is one of these events.
This will likely be a difficult and overwhelming time for you. But know that we at Community First Credit Union are here to help you. Use this document to help you gather information you will need to get through this difficult time.
Below is a list of what you will need in to resolve any affairs with a Community First Credit Union account.
You will need your identification and relationship to the deceased.
- An Original Death Certificate (we don’t keep it but we need to see the Original)
- If you are not a joint owner on the Community First account(s) or listed as a beneficiary, you will also need an Affidavit for Collection of Personal Property California Probate Code Section 13100.
We understand that in this difficult time you may not want to come into a branch right away. You can call our member support staff at (707)546-6000. Eventually, though, we will need you to come in, in person, with the death certificate and other documentation, to finalize affairs.
Below is a list of other items to consider outside of what we need here at CFCU:
- Account statements: Including bank accounts, brokerage accounts, retirement accounts such as IRA/401K
- Life Insurance Policies
- Deeds for Real Estate
- Titles for any loans (vehicle, boat, RV)
- Stocks/Bonds Certificates
You may also need some of their bills to settle those affairs as well. Things to look for:
- Utility Bill
- Cell Phone
- Credit Cards
- Mortgage or any personal loans
- Medical Bills
- Tax Bills
If your loved one was receiving Social Security, you will also need to call the Social Security office at 1 800 772 1213 (7am-7pm Mon – Fri)
Please know that we are truly sorry for your loss and will be here for you in your time of need.
