5th Annual Stroller Drive; 1st time Warm Clothes Drive
For the fifth consecutive year, Community First is collecting baby strollers in good working order. These strollers will go to The Living Room, a local agency that serves homeless or at-risk women and their children. For many of these moms, a sturdy stroller is their primary mode with which to transport their children around town.
New this year, Community First is also collecting new or lightly used warm winter clothing for teen and young adult clients of Social Advocates for Youth (SAY). According to its most recent census, SAY says that 1,128 kids will sleep on the streets of Sonoma County on any given night. These young men and women, many of whom have been termed out of foster care, need warm clothing to help them survive the night.
In its West County branch in Guerneville, strollers and warm clothing will be routed to the West County Community Services. In the Napa branch of Community First, warm clothing and family games will be routed to VOICES, which helps transitioning youth (ages 16 to 24) make the leap from foster care to successful, independent adulthood.
Donations in good condition are accepted at any location of Community First between November 15 and December 31 (M–F, 9a–5:30p).
